Wikileaks Cable Released by Norwegian Newspaper Uncovers Secret German Spy Satellite Plan
The BND (German Intelligence) has planned deploying a $274 million spy satellite as soon as next year, according to information from Wikileaks cables. The planned HiROS is being cloaked as a instrument to combat global warming to insure passage.
The cable reads: "The German Government believes that full spectrum overhead reconnaissance is an effective force multiplier, provides an instrument of national power, and politically frees Germany from dependence on foreign sources of imagery."
The cable was released in regard to a meeting of the US NGA with the BND.
HiROS is scheduled for full deployment by 2013.
